Gold Coast United's Bleiberg urges players to show character

Gold Coast United coach Miron Bleiberg is urging his players to show character against the Wellington Phoenix tonight.

United are coming off a 0-0 draw against Brisbane Roar - a match they were lucky not to lose - and Bleiberg understands the team needs to bounce back in a positive fashion, like they did in the second half last week.

"Even though we didn't start well last week we recovered in the second half and we had some very good chances, so we certainly had some positives to take from the match and we are equally positive about this week's game in Wellington," Bleiberg said.

Bleiberg admitted his side did show some character in the second term of the clash at Skilled Park last Sunday and expects more of the same from his charges against a quality outfit in the Phoenix.

"We showed plenty of character and sometimes you learn from the kind of adversity we went through against the Roar in the first half," he added.

"Wellington are exactly the type of opposition we need at the moment. We are expecting a tough game so we will be prepared mentally and physically for what lies in front of us."

Gold Coast are away at Westpac Stadium to meet the Phoenix tonight - kick-off is at 7:30pm local time (5:30pm AEST).
