Gold Coast United fans set to show support for flood victims

Gold Coast United fans have snapped up 8,000 free tickets for Saturday's match with Newcastle Jets.

Club owner Clive Palmer has again thrown open the gates for a Skilled Park fixture but this time it is to raise money for the victims of the Queensland floods.

Fans can enter the venue for free with a ticket but are supported to make a donation upon entry with all proceeds going to the Queensland Flood Appeal.

Gold Coast take on Melbourne Heart at AAMI Park tonight and coach Miron Bleiberg says a favourable result in that match could lead to a massive crowd on the weekend.

"We are expecting anywhere between 10,000 and 20,000, hopefully closer to 20,000," he told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

"The players love stuff like this.

"If they go to Melbourne and get results there will probably be an extra 5000 people at the gates, so that's another motivation (for the players to win)."
