Gold Coast United coach Bleiberg calls for fans to show their support

Gold Coast United coach Miron Bleiberg has urged the people of the region to get out and show their support this weekend. United's next home game this Sunday against Central Coast Mariners will be free for all patrons and after a string of paltry crowds despite good results from the team, Bleiberg wants the fans to get out and support their local team.

"Hopefully it will be a memorable evening for football on the Gold Coast and the club will realise there is a reason to have a team here. More importantly, our owner Clive Palmer will also have that realisation," Bleiberg told the Gold Coast Buletin.

''If they come, we will have to work out how to keep the people coming, whether it's a case of lowering ticket prices, or whatever.

''I believe that Clive and our management are smart enough and good enough to find the right answer if this week proves to be a success.

''If not, then maybe there is no answer and there is no reason to have a team on the Gold Coast. But that is not my feeling.

''Part of the reason we have not attracted the crowds we want is down to the club but the public also have to show willingness because it takes two to tango,'' Bleiberg added.

''It's simple a lot of people can't afford to pay to come to 15 home games in a season and if I wasn't employed at the club I would partly feel the same.

"So we have to find a compromise and maybe find the right price to attract a reasonable crowd each week.''

Before the Gold Coast meet the Mariners, they take on Newcastle Jets at EnergyAustralia Stadium on Wednesday night - kick-off is at 7:00pm. Sunday's clash with the Mariners begins at 4:00pm local time (5:00pm AEDT).
