Gold Coast United and Adelaide United play out scoreless draw

Gold Coast United have held league leaders Adelaide United to a 0-0 draw at Skilled Park this evening.

The Reds managed to notch up their 12th match without a loss, equalling Central Coast Mariners' A-League record in a match that did not really shadow the form of the teams who were sitting 1st and 5th on the table prior to the match.

Adelaide went into the game without key playmakers Marcos Flores and Mathew Leckie and it showed early on as Gold Coast enjoyed more possession through midfield but the Reds did enjoy some positive moments of their own as things progressed.

Rini Coolen's men absorbed the early pressure from the Gold Coast before finding their feet but there was little to write home about in the opening half hour.

The Reds pressed late in the first term with half-chances to Adam Hughes and Paul Reid as the home side looked fairly stagnant going forward but the half-time whistle came with no goals on the board.

Adelaide started the second half in positive fashion and came close to an opener when Sergio van Dijk headed goalward but fortunately for the home side it ballooned over the crossbar.

It looked as though a goal was going to come at some stage, especially as Adelaide were putting plenty of shots on goal but despite forcing Glen Moss into a late save, nothing was to come and the match ended in a 0-0 draw.
