Gold Coast's Smeltz still five goals clear despite absence

Gold Coast United striker Shane Smeltz remains on top of the A-League goalscoring table after Round 8. The New Zealand international missed the clash with Melbourne Victory on Saturday due to suspension but kept his lead of five goals intact.

Victory's Archie Thompson and Carlos Hernandez both added to their tallies against Gold Coast to join Perth Glory's Branko Jelic and North Queensland Fury star Robbie Fowler on four goals as did Brisbane Roar's Sergio van Dijk who netted an 81st minute for his club.

Smeltz is still the tearaway leader on nine goals and seems to have the A-League Golden Boot at his mercy.
