Gold Coast United striker Joel Porter has sent an ominous warning to the rest of the A-League. The former Hartlepool United man believes the new franchise can get 30% better after their 2-1 victory over English Premier League club Fulham.
"We have a lot of improvement in us yet we can get 30 per cent better than where we are now," Porter said.
"We've only had our full squad together in training for just over a week now and we're working on combinations and continuity.
"We are not just about private jets and a rich owner.
"I didn't come here for the jets and hoopla surrounding the club - I cam here to play good football with good players and to win a grand final or a Premier's plate.
"I've not done that in my career to date and this is going to be my best opportunity.
"I didn't think when I signed that winning something in the first year would be realistic. But the way we are feeling, training and playing - and the results we have had - makes me feel we can.
"We'll get better and I have to say my hopes are now sky-rocketing."
