Gold Coast's Bleiberg to let Culina play internationals

Gold Coast United coach Miron Bleiberg will allow marquee player Jason Culina to travel with the Socceroos if he is selected in September. The former PSV Eindhoven midfielder has been in great touch for his new club in the A-League and despite being left out of Australia's recent international friendly against Republic of Ireland (because of travel issues), he is expected to take his place in the squad for the South Korea clash in Seoul on September 5.

Bleiberg says he doesn't have a problem with his captain representing his country but questioned the decision of the A-League to schedule matches on a FIFA-designated weekend.

''Of course I would like him to stay but I know how important the Socceroos are to Jason, and it's important he is happy with his decision to come back to the A-League,'' Bleiberg said.

''So we will let him go and wish him luck. My only complaint is why we are having games on a FIFA weekend. There are only 27 rounds in the season, and surely it wouldn't have been that hard to put in a break.''
