Gold Coast expect answer from PSV's Culina by Sunday

Gold Coast United expect to learn by Sunday if PSV Eindhoven midfielder Jason Culina will be joining them for A-League season 2009/10. "My understanding is that we are his top choice but if something comes up that interests him more (and he takes it), then I'll accept it," Gold Coast coach Miron Bleiberg told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

"To date, the only Socceroos players who have come home have been just one step from retirement.

"With Jason you are looking at a player in his prime.

"Even at a big club like PSV, he still looks outstanding every time I see him. He would provide the gloss and class I am looking for."

A source close to Culina said: "It's a big decision for him but it's not based purely on finances ...

"It may be that this is the time to return while he is still at the top of his game and able to flourish and hopefully set an example others will follow.

"But when a club like PSV (where he has been since 2005) comes in for a sizeable new contract, it is also something he must consider."

Culina, who has 36 Socceroos caps, has nothing left to prove in Europe, having won three Dutch titles and more than 20 European Champions League appearances.

"He has promised to make his decision very soon. And that is what he will do," added the source. "He's excited by the possibilities on the Coast and being a part of a big new project."
