Gold Coast cut loose striker Milson

Gold Coast United have released Brazilian striker Milson. The A-League club announced on Thursday that the 32-year-old had left for his homeland on Wednesday in a bid to secure a club for the upcoming Brazilian domestic season.

"A series of soft tissue injuries hampered Milson's A-League opportunities and, with the club deciding that his contract would not be extended into next season, it was agreed that an early termination was in the best interests of both player and club," a club spokesman said.

United coach Miron Bleiberg said the emergence of Andrew Barisic and youngster Golgol Mebrahtu helped the club accommodate Milson's release.

"Milson is a lovely guy and unfortunately for him he was hindered by a string of injuries during time here," Bleiberg said.

"He is a good player and will be remembered for the glorious goal he scored against Fulham in the pre-season.

"He always maintained a positive attitude and was great around the dressing room.

"We all wish him well in his future endeavours and will stay in touch with him."
