Gold Coast United will attempt to have the red card given to defender Kristian Rees on Friday night overturned.
Rees' 33rd minute tackle on Adelaide United youngster Mathew Leckie was deemed to have denied him a clear run on goal and referee Chris Beath pulled out a straight red.
But United have reviewed the footage of the incident which shows that Rees took the ball in the challenge and coach Miron Bleiberg has confirmed the club will launch a bid to have the suspension that comes with a red card turned over.
"We hope the panel has a look at it and the card is rescinded. We can't pre-empt anything they might do but we feel that it definitely deserves to be examined further," Bleiberg said.
"Something similar happened recently with Frank Lampard at Chelsea and he was cleared, so we are looking for a similar outcome with Kristian."
A spokesperson for Football Federation Australia said Gold Coast have the right to appeal if they believe the decision was unwarranted.
"The advice to Gold Coast would be to appeal the card if they believe there are grounds to suggest it was an error by the referee," the spokesperson said.
"The panel will in all likelihood look at it anyway, and could of its own accord come to a conclusion favourable to the player and the club.
"It goes without saying that we cannot prejudice any deliberations."
