Goal scorer Pondeljak admits to 'passing' his goal

Melbourne Victory's championship hero Tom Pondeljak revealed how he actually tried to pass the ball to teammate Carlos Hernandez.

Pondeljak scored the only goal in Saturday night's A-League grand final against Adelaide United, a shot from outside the box in the 59th minute.

The 33-year old admitted today that he was actually trying to pass the ball to Hernandez and got lucky in the end.

At a presentation in Melbourne's Federation Square today, Pondeljak said, "I was actually trying to pass that one to Carlos (Hernandez).

"It probably worked out that Carlos moved out of the way at the last second and put Eugene (Adelaide keeper Galekovic) off a bit.

"It was nice to have scored the winner but I can admit that I did try to pass it."

Pondeljak said he was also delighted to have finally won an A-League title in his third attempt.

"It is great to have now won one and to do it with such a great bunch of boys makes it even better."
