Top meets bottom in the A-League this weekend with the Perth Glory traveling to Melbourne for a crack at the current league leaders.

A cast of new faces will be welcomed into the Perth line-up as coach Dave Mitchell tries to find a winning formula against the Victory who could be considered vulnerable after a season-first loss and three suspensions in as many weeks.

Mitchell will add midfielder Nick Rizzo plus defenders Jimmy Downey and Jeff Bright to the squad but will be without ex-Victory striker James Robinson who has injured his troublesome groin and may miss up to two months.

Young goalkeeper Tando Velaphi may be used in the starting line-up as Mitchell tinkers with the Glory defense and was buoyed by his performance last week.

“I have reviewed the footage from the youth match and he played very well,” Mitchell said.

“I haven’t decided what I’m doing in the keeper stakes, but he’s looking very good.”

Even though the Victory went down last week, Mitchell knows not to underestimate them.

“It’s an important game for us and after last weeks performance we want to go and put in a good performance.

“Melbourne has depth in their squad and several players that haven’t played a lot as yet so I’m sure they’ll be keen to get in and show they deserve a spot.

“The probably have the strongest strike force in the league and it’ll be a massive job to handle them. If we can do that then we’ve got a good chance of getting something from the match.”

Melbourne will be without Costa Rican playmaker Carlos Hernandez who will miss due to suspension whilst key defender Michael Thwaite has aggravated an ankle injury and may spend up to three weeks on the sidelines.
