Manchester City had a deal in place for Cagliari goalkeeper Federico Marchetti last night.
Terms had been struck between the two clubs and also with the Italy international's management.
But Sportitalia says the transfer fell through in the final hours as City goalkeeper Shay Given refused to move.
Marchetti was to join City as a direct replacement for Irishman.
