Shay Given has pleaded with Manchester City's board not to do a Newcastle and sack manager Mark Hughes.
Given, a £7.5million buy from the Toon, told The Sun: "It's not rocket science that if you keep changing your manager every year you are not going to get stability at the club.
"I do not want to see what happened at Newcastle happening at Manchester City and I hope Mark Hughes is there for a long time. The longest-serving manager I had at the club was Bobby Robson and they were probably the most successful years I had at the club.
"Then it was all change again, another manager, new players new ideas and at the end of it the changing did not do a lot for anyone."
Sparky sold the City dream to Given but he is aware of the speculation surrounding the boss with the big bucks bringing big pressure.
Given said: "Because the club is so financially well backed there is more coverage and more of a spotlight. But Manchester City needs to have a settled manager and the owners need to keep backing him. It's not going to happen overnight.
"The club has financial power but we have to get up the league to attract more top quality players. The manager sold the club to me and told me the ambitions and where he wanted it to go and what the owners wanted and it's exciting and a journey I want to be on."
