Manchester City keeper Shay Given insists Manchester City, if they want to become a successful club, must keep faith with boss Mark Hughes. The Republic of Ireland international is all too aware of how damaging managerial instability can be to a team after spending 12-years at Newcastle.
"We have more potential here than we did at Newcastle," said the experienced shot-stopper.
"But I had some good years up there and when Newcastle were getting great financial backing off the Halls and the Shepherds there was a great opportunity that went to waste.
"Kevin Keegan left and Joe Kinnear came in on a temporary basis and there was no stability whatsoever.
"For me, keeping your manager and staff in place and giving them time is an important factor in a successful football club.
"Mark Hughes knows his players now.
"He knows who he wants to be here next season as well as his transfer targets.
"We need him here if City are going to move forward.
"He did a great job for Blackburn, and before that Wales, and I think he commands huge respect."
