Giulianelli: Wenger called Higuain DIRECTLY; Arsenal target Inter Milan stopper

"Don't believe the hype" was the name of a 1988 song by Public Enemy. Arsenal fans can start to believe the hype around Gonzalo Higuain. Just a bit, it's no illusion, there are actually trousers here - not only mouth!

Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager, has been in direct contact with Gonzalo and the player has informally asked Napoli to leave the club.

There will be no problems with wages or contract issues: the happy ending of the deal just depends on whether Napoli are willing to sell him at a reasonable price. As I've reported and tweeted, Olivier Giroud is a potential makeweight in the deal and Arsenal are willing to pay a high fee.

Napoli value Higuain at €80m but Arsenal value him at around €60m.

MORE STRIKER OPTIONS?

There looks to be a good chance of this Gonzalo Higuain deal happening.

At the present moment, Higuain, Mauro Icardi (Inter Milan) and Alexandre Lacazette (Lyon) are the three striker options, but Wenger would rather stick with Giroud and bring in Julian Draxler, from Wolfsburg, than go for just Lacazette.

Such situations are proving that this will be a tough summer to get players in. There's been a bit of frustration around the Arsenal camp.

But I have more breaking news about the Gunners today: Arsenal have just been in contact with Inter Milan over the Colombian defender Jeison Murillo.
