Giroud, Verratti did nothing to receive red cards - Arsenal boss Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is of the belief that the two players sent off on Tuesday night did nothing to warrant their respective red cards.

Gunners striker Olivier Giroud and PSG midfielder Marco Verratti were shown second yellow cards by referee Viktor Kassai in injury-time of the 1-1 Champions League draw at Parc des Princes.

Of the coming together of the pair, Wenger told arsenal.com: "The ball was on the other side, I did not see what happened.

"I think the first yellow card [for Giroud] was very harsh already, it wasn't a foul.

"The second, he tells me he has done nothing at all and Olivier is honest so I believe him. And Verratti told me as well that he has done nothing, so I said look, 'go together to see the referee and tell him you did nothing'."

Verratti appeared to react to a Giroud tackle late in the contest which prompted Kassai to make a call and send both of them off after Alexis Sanchez had cancelled out Edinson Cavani's 1st-minute opener.
