Olivier Giroud came close to joining Celtic during the winter transfer window. In the end the 23-year-old striker signed for Montpellier, allowing him to remain in his native France.
Giroud feels he is now ready to launch his career in Ligue 1, having returned to Montpellier this summer, but admits he could be preparing for a tilt at the SPL title had things worked out differently.
"In December, I spoke with Glasgow Celtic but a deal fell through," he told L'Equipe.
"They set a deadline because they were in a rush to try and catch up with Rangers, but I needed time to think about it.
"In the end, rather than Sochaux or Monaco, I chose Montpellier.
"I have immediately felt that there is a good atmosphere inside the camp and I am confident I will adapt quickly. I believe the club is perfectly suited to me."
