France great Alain Giresse has paid tribute to Atletico Madrid attacker Antoine Griezmann.

Giresse believes Griezmann can win the Ballon d'Or this new season.

He told France Football: "The advantages of Griezmann? He had already made a nice second half of the season with Atletico. It ended with this victory in the Europa League against Marseille (3-0).

"He had been very good in Lyon and a double scorer. He knows how to respond to major events. His World Cup Final proved it again. He's still the man of the match.

"It also proves that he is getting better compared to 2016 and his two finals lost in C1, then to the Euros.

"That season, if he wins at least one, he is a Ballon d'Or with six goals in the Euro. But this is the past, the fact that he has already accomplished very beautiful things, his quality, his standing can now weigh in his status as a credible candidate."
