Argentine wing-back Gino Peruzzi has confirmed he's on his way to sign for Sunderland.

Peruzzi set off from Buenos Aires yesterday to finalise his £3.3m switch, which has turned into a drawn-out affair that threatened to break down when Sunderland's initial offer was rejected.

The 21-year-old criticised his club Velez Sarsfield for 'mishandling' the deal. He said: "It was crazy what happened.

" I wanted the best for Velez and me. To say 'no' was not too bad. Luckily we made a deal and now I think about doing the right thing in Sunderland."
