Chelsea's 19-year-old midfielder Jordan Houghton impressed on debut for loan side Gillingham at the weekend, as the Gills sensationally upset League One promotion favourites Sheffield United 4-0 in their season opener.
Houghton was one of a number of Chelsea loanees to make their debut at the weekend. Alex Davey debuted for Peterborough in a 2-0 loss to Rochdale, while Tomas Kalas was strong in defence as Middleborough drew with Preston 0-0 in the Championship.
The Blues have loaned four players to Vitesse Arnhem this season, and all four featured in the Dutch side's 1-1 opening day draw with Willem II. Highly-rated midfielders Lewis Baker and Izzy Brown were starters in that clash, while Nathan and Danilo Pantic came on off the bench.
Elsewhere, Victorien Angban and Matej Delac impressed in their respective debuts for Sint-Truidense (Belgium) and FK Sarajevo (Bosnia), but Mario Pasalic struggled on his debut for Ligue 1 giants Monaco, and was substituted at half-time.
