Gilberto Silva has revealed Brazil's successful Copa America campaign cost him the Arsenal captaincy.

Gilberto was stunned at returning to discover he'd also lost the club captaincy to William Gallas.

He said: "I was surprised, I have to admit, but Arsene explained later that as I came back so close to the start of the season, he had to give it to somebody else."
