Gilberto is delighted with his move to Tottenham.
The former Hertha Berlin fullback told the club's website: "First of all, for me, it will be a great pleasure to be the first Brazilian footballer to play for Tottenham Hotspur.
"I hope I can help make the team successful in the Premier League.
"It's a new life for me to come to play in the Premier League and I will do my best for the club, for my new team-mates and friends. I want to play as soon as possible.
"I hope to have success with my new team-mates, to have it quickly and I will be a strong as I can for Tottenham Hotspur."
Gilberto - who played at the Lane for Brazil in the friendly against Wales in September, 2006 - had a good friend to call for an insight into his new club with Kevin-Prince Boateng taking the same path from Hertha Berlin.
"I've spoken to Kevin a couple of times, it was great move for him as well and I played with him for two years at Hertha Berlin. Now I'm here I hope to gel with all my new team-mates and that's how we can develop as a team.
"I've watched Spurs play on TV over the years and always admired them. It is a very big English club and I hope to do well here."
