The Sunday World says a rumour quickly became fact as bookies and spurious social media accounts claimed to have inside knowledge in the imminent appointment of Giggs at Celtic.

Yet it later emerged that the Welsh legend missed the game for family reasons and not because he had walked away from Old Trafford after almost three decades of service.
