Gibbs: Arsenal now have matchwinning characters

Kieran Gibbs feels Arsenal now have the characters to sustain a title challenge.

With the Premier League season less than a week away, Arsenal are being widely tipped to challenge for further major honours having bolstered their squad with the signings of Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy, Calum Chambers and David Ospina.

"Winning the FA Cup was the biggest thing and we've kept a large amount of the squad together and added some new players," Gibbs told arsenal.com.

"Last year we did that as well. We didn't let a lot of people go and brought people in. That had a positive effect for us so hopefully that can happen again.

"The boys needed that [FA Cup] win and everyone involved in the club needed it. We want to come back and use it as a stepping stone, we don't want to take our foot off the gas.

"It's only the start and I hope we grow in statute. I think the players have come back with bigger personalities and they're hungry for more."
