Sunderland lost Emmanuele Giaccherini for the start of the season.
The Evening Chronicle says the Italy international hobbled off clutching his groin in the first half of Sunderland's 2-0 win over Real Betis at Bishop Auckland's Heritage Park last night.
Giaccherini's injury will be assessed today, but last night boss Gus Poyet said he expects the midfielder to be out for a couple of weeks - which would rule him out of the trip to The Hawthorns a week tomorrow.
