Newcastle Jets star recruit Francis Jeffers has admitted that he simply needed to get out of England.

The 29-year old has been a revelation since joining the Jets last month, playing six games in which the club has remained undefeated, creating plenty of opportunities in the final third with his hard-work and inventive nous.

The former Everton and Arsenal starlet, who also had stints with Charlton, Rangers, Blackburn, Ipswich and Sheffield Wednesday in his 13-year UK career, said that a move down under was just the tonic he needed to reignite himself as a top level player.

"I wanted to move away from England and spend a bit of time away from there," he told Australian football Weekly.

"I'd played all my football there since I broke into the (Everton) first team at 16 and I've only ever played in England (besides a short stint at Rangers) and I just felt now was the time to move away and experience something different. It's been good to me."

Jeffers has come to Newcastle at a good time with new ownership taking over and things picking up on the pitch and he says it is great to be involved in it all.

"Things are going well, we're playing some decent football and there's a bit of a buzz around Newcastle," he added.

"People are actually turning up and enjoying the football, so it's good for everyone."
