Gerrard was rightly sent off says former Liverpool teammate Carragher

Jamie Carragher has said that Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard can have no qualms about being sent off against Manchester United.

Liverpool were dealt with a major setback in their hopes of finishing in the top four after they suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat at the hands of fierce rivals United at Anfield on Sunday.

Rather than the loss though, the headlines were dominated by Reds captain Gerrard, as the 34-year old probably cost his side the game after getting himself sent off for a shocking stamp on United midfielder Ander Herrera - less than a minute after coming on to the pitch as a second-half substitute.

Cameras clearly showed that Gerrard was at fault and now former teammate Carragher has moved on to state that the Liverpool skipper was rightly sent off for his moment of madness.

The Sky Sport pundit said: "It's a straight red there's no arguments with that. You can't do that on a football pitch, he's been rightly given his marching orders."
