Steven Gerrard is hoping Daniel Sturridge can prove his fitness for Tuesday's World Cup qualifier with Ukraine in Kiev.
The Liverpool striker has been ruled out of Friday's meeting with Moldova at Wembley due to a thigh injury and his club and country captain wants him back as soon as possible.
"It is a shame for Daniel," Gerrard said.
"The stage is set for him to come and shine on the international stage so fingers crossed he will be back for Tuesday because he certainly makes England stronger."
