Gerrard shifts Liverpool praise from attack to defence

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard insists the focus should be on Jurgen Klopp's defence as much as their stellar attack.

All the hype this season, and deservedly so, has been for Liverpool's attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. The Reds have won their last 10 out 14 games and scored a whopping 35 goals.

They weren't fortunate enough to continue their hot-run in front of goal against Porto on Tuesday night, as their Champions League last-16 second leg finished goalless. However, their 5-0 win in the first-leg means they have advanced to the quarter finals.

Speaking on BT Sport after the match, Gerrard added that their increased defensive display, which has resulted in 5 clean sheets in the last seven games, has a lot to do with their recent run of form.

"Liverpool are a dangerous team," said Gerrard.

"People talk the front three and dangerous they are and how good they are good going forward, but for me defensively they've tightened up.

"The goalkeeper's in great form, Van Dijk's made a big impact but they've cut out the mistakes.

"They've had a lot of criticism over mistakes earlier in the season but clean sheets tonight and at the weekend… it's all looking positive for them."
