Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard says English football must protect Arsenal whizkid Jack Wilshere.

Gerrard is keen not to put too much pressure on his England teammate.

The Liverpool skipper said: "It's vital we don't all put too much pressure on him.

"I can only tell him to try and keep his feet on the ground. His career will be full of ups and downs and he has to be prepared for that.

"Let's not start calling players world-class before they have gone out and proved it in the Champions League and at international level."
