Liverpool will be without skipper Steven Gerrard for four weeks after the player underwent successful surgery on a groin problem. A club statement issued on Friday afternoon read: "LFC can today confirm that Steven Gerrard has undergone successful surgery on his groin and will be out for up to four weeks.
"The decision was made following consultation with a specialist."
If he is out for four weeks he will not feature for England in the Euro 2012 qualifier against Wales later this month or the friendly against Ghana which follows it.
