Gerrard omitted from Liverpool's Europa League match

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has not travelled with the team for their Europa League match at FC Utrecht, reports BBC Sport. The midfielder has been rested for Thursday's match, while boss Roy Hodgson has also left defender Daniel Agger out of his squad.

But Fernando Torres, who has only one goal for the Reds this term, will be in a 20-man squad in the Netherlands.

Paul Konchesky (hamstring) and Fabio Aurelio (Achilles tendon) are out but Dirk Kuyt is set to face his old club.

The 30-year-old spent five years with Utrecht before joining Feyenoord in 2003 and told the Liverpool website: "It means a lot to go back.

"They are the club that gave me the opportunity to play professional football and I really enjoyed it.

"I don't know a lot of players there now. There are just two or three that still play for the team, but I also know a few guys who work at the club so it'll be nice to go back and see them."
