Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard believes his squad is in great shape after their trip to Hong Kong.

"We played two tough games out in Hong Kong in conditions that were high in humidity and heat. They were good workouts for getting the fitness levels up and closer to where they need to be to start the Premier League season the way we want to," Gerrard told LFC Magazine.

"We couldn't have asked for better conditions to get to know each other. I said before we went it would be good for team bonding and that's what happened. The new lads have got a feel for us and we've got a feel for them.

"I knew the boss had signed good players, lads who would improve the starting line-up, but after working with them over the last fortnight I'm even more confident they'll be great acquisitions for us.

"No doubt we'll be back in the far east soon but it's a pity we couldn't win the trophy to add the icing on the cake."
