Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard admits he was shocked by Kenny Dalglish's sacking.

King Kenny was axed by Kop chiefs last week.

England skipper Gerrard confessed: "I was disappointed when he left, and I was surprised.

"I'm close to him. He's been a big influence on my career, a legend to me and the club. But these things happen."
