Germany management are stunned by Chelsea's decision to leave Michael Ballack off their Champions League list.

Ballack, who is close to full fitness according to German sources, has been left out Chelsea's registered squad.

Germany team manager Oliver Bierhoff called Ballack's omission "stunning".

He said: "Obviously we're concerned. Michael is the only one who can tell us what happened. It's stunning when a player of his calibre is not included in the Champions League squad."
