German legend Stefan Effenberg admits he'd have loved to have played for Real Madrid.

The former Bayern Munich captain is looking forward to their Champions League semifinal against Real.

He told AS: "What is the club that every player dreams of? It must be a great honor to wear the merengues shirt."

Asked if he ever had an offer from Real, Effenberg continued: "No. Atletico was the one which did.

"It was in 2001 after winning the Champions League with Bayern. I had just turned 33 and talked to Jesus Gil, the eldest. In the end we did not reach an agreement."
