Napoli striker German Denis turned down the chance to leave the club last month.

The Argentine had a difficult first season at the San Paolo following his £5m move from Independiente in 2008, but he was still a wanted man over the summer.

"Denis had the chance to leave even before this season began," Leo Rodriguez noted. "Boca, River, Independiente and San Lorenzo wanted him, as did two English and two Spanish clubs.

"German though decided to remain at Napoli as he was convinced that he could do well in Azzurro."
