Geremi confident of silverware at Newcastle

Newcastle midfielder Geremi is confident he can fulfil his ambitions at St James' Park after leaving Chelsea in the hunt for regular football.

The 28-year-old Cameroon international played a starring role in his side's 4-1 friendly victory over Celtic on Thursday night in front of an appreciative Toon Army on his home debut.

Geremi headed for Tyneside after a four-year spell at Chelsea which brought him several honours, but not regular football.

He will run out against Italian aristocrats Juventus on Sunday relishing the chance to stake his claim for a place in Sam Allardyce's team, and desperate to help the Magpies end their 38-year wait for a trophy.

Geremi said: "At Chelsea, I was not playing regularly, that's why I decided to leave. I hope I am going to play regularly here for what is a big team.

"Newcastle is a big club and it is a big challenge for me.

"This team has gone 38 years without winning anything and we hope with the addition of the new signings, we can try to get there."
