Former Hull City star Geovanni made an immediate impact for MLS club San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday.
The Brazilian attacking midfielder provided an assist and scored a goal in his first start as the Quakes defeated Houston Dynamo 2-1 to notch up their ninth win of the season and keep their play-off hopes alive.
Geovanni said he felt good during the game and was delighted to have contributed to the victory.
"I was prepared," Geovanni said. "The first two matches I was training a lot, but I felt good today, and I'm happy I was able to help my teammates out."
The ninth win also marked a record number of victories during a season for the Quakes, who are in just their third MLS season after a three-year hiatus in the mid-2000s.
"It's Year 3 for us," San Jose coach Frank Yallop said. "Each year we're growing a little bit as a club. You lose players, you keep players, and you just keep trying to make it a better unit, and I feel we have good depth."
