Newcastle United local lad Paul Dummett is confident team spirit will be strong this season.
Of the nine signings made so far, Geordie Jack Colback is the only a British player who will feature this season, with Nottingham Forest duo Karl Darlow and Jamaal Lascelles not being seen until next summer.
Dummett told The Journal: "It's true that there's not too many of us (local players) now that Shola Ameobi has gone. Obviously, there is Steven Taylor and then there's Adam Armstrong who came on against Real Sociedad.
"As Geordies, we know exactly what it means for the fans, and it's up to us to tell the other players what it means. I think they've got the message.
All the lads know just how passionate our fans are. But it is important for us local lads to do so as well."
