Genoa signing Dainelli says goodbye to Fiorentina

Fiorentina captain Dario Dainelli has agreed a move to Genoa.

The 30-year-old joins Genoa in a transfer worth €2.5m and ends their search for a centre-back.

"I want to salute everyone," he told the official club website. "I said goodbye to the lads and I'm sorry to go. I've been here six years, five of them as captain, and I am so proud to have gone through this experience.

"It was an honour and of course I can't help but be sorry to leave, but in football you sometimes need to make decisions.

"I was moved when talking to my teammates and I'm moved now, talking to all of you," continued Dainelli in a video message.

"I have an excellent rapport with everyone. There are lads like [Massimo] Gobbi, [Marco] Donadel, [Riccardo] Montolivo, [Alessandro] Gamberini and [Martin] Jorgensen who have been with me for years.

"We all feel the wrench of leaving each other, all for something that happened in a few days and it's difficult to get our heads round it.

"I live in the centre of the city and just coming in to the training ground today was an achievement, as I found fans in the street, from the garage to the bakery, all saying goodbye.

"Their affection is mutual and making that connection with them was special. In these moments there are many things that you look back on, more the good times than the bad."
