Genoa president Enrico Preziosi has explained the decision to sell defender Andrea Ranocchia to Inter Milan.
Inter have agreed to pay 12.5m for the remaining 50 per cent stake of the Italy international centre-back's contract.
Preziosi said: "It was an intelligent operation. Inter will pay 12.5m for the second half of the contract.
"The player was destined for the Nerazzurri in June, but we anticipated the deal.
"We have satisfied our financial requirements and Inter's ones of a technical nature."
