Genoa president Enrico Preziosi has defended underperforming striker Alberto Gilardino.

Gilardino has scored just once since joining from Fiorentina.

"He doesn't deserve the criticism," the Marassi chief noted of the Italian international. "I'm not disappointed by him and he's part of our project."
