Genoa coach Gianpiero Gasperini refused to be downbeat after they were dumped out of the Europa League last night.

Genoa needed victory over Valencia for any chance of progress, but lost 2-1.

"We played the way we wanted to, with intelligence, balance and intensity," said the Coach.

"This is an unlucky period for us and it showed this evening. We leave the competition with our heads held high and as an experience it was positive.

"This adventure proved that our style of football can also work in Europe."
