Genoa coach Gasperini insists Champions League push still on

Genoa boss Gian Piero Gasperini is confident they can still qualify for the Champions League this season.

The Grifoni host Catania today as they look to bounce back from Wednesday's 5-2 defeat at AC Milan.

"Our aim right now is to get as many points as we can," he said.

"This is a very different campaign with respect to last season and we are not a team that right now can battle for the Champions League qualifying places.

"There are other teams that are stronger than us.

"We just have to focus on something else."

Gasperini hopes the emphatic defeat in Milan will serve as a wake-up call for his players.

"Enduring heavy defeats once in a while is a good lesson for the team," said Gasperini.

"We need to think about giving our best in every game and when we lose to turn the page. We now have two important games, against Catania and then Bari. We have to take it one game at a time."
