Genoa have admitted defeat in their bid to hang onto defender Domenico Criscito for next season's Serie A return.

The club's vice-president Giambattista Pastorello said: "This question should be put to Juventus - and not only to the leaders - but also to the coach.

"I know that coach [Claudio] Ranieri has rather considerable esteem for Criscito.

"For us, he would be a great gift, but I believe that it will be impossible to bring him back to Genoa."
