Gateshead want to keep hold of Sunderland midfielder Lynden Gooch.

Gooch has joined the Tynesiders initially on a 28-day youth loan.

Gateshead boss Gary Mills said: "On first impressions, I want to extend with Lynden, no two ways about that.

"He was excellent on Tuesday and what people maybe do not see is his work ethic. It was incredible and he will learn from this.

"He might not get as much time (on the ball) as he does in the under-21s.

"There were a few times on Tuesday when he was tested in different ways to the under-21s.

"That is why Sunderland want him to come out here, to learn, to make him better."
