Gasperini launches amazing attack on Genoa transfer policy

Genoa coach Gian Piero Gasperini has turned on his board over their summer transfer policy.

Gasperini blasted: "Please let's not talk about transfers, it was a nightmare! I don't want to think about the market again. I have great respect for the President and he has great respect for me.

"Quite simply it was a fundamental difference in opinion over strategy. In that sense our ideas just don't come together."

Genoa sold stars Diego Milito and Thiago Motta to Inter, but also brought in names like Hernan Crespo, Sergio Floccari and Rodrigo Palacio.

"I thought this would be the right season to achieve something important right away, taking into account the difficulties that some top clubs are having and how they started the season in a weakened state.

"I considered the income from some of our big sales to be money totally reinvested in the squad, but instead the club preferred to focus on a medium-term policy.

"It's a decision that I absolutely respect, but do not share. From this season I will be a Coach and that's it.

"I've always made it clear I do not recognise myself in certain decisions. This is my fourth year at the club, I'd have thought by now it would be obvious what characteristics new Genoa players must have.

"For example, I focus a lot on wingers and because they work so hard, I need to replace them often, sometimes in the same game. But on the right I only have Marco Rossi and on the left Domenico Criscito.

"I focus only on work and President Enrico Preziosi deserves all the respect, as he puts the money in and can spend it the way he sees fit."
