Former West Bromwich Albion star Gary Thompson is pleased to see the squad undergoing an overhaul.
Albion have already signed Craig Gardner but need two full-backs and at least two strikers as a bare minimum after losing Liam Ridgewell, Goran Popov, Steven Reid, Diego Lugano, Zoltan Gera, Matej Vydra, Scott Sinclair, Morgan Amalfitano, Thievy Bifouma and Scott Allan.
"It can help, as long as the new man has a voice in who's coming in," he told the Birmingham Mail.
"I know the Albion have had this thing where they are always plotting a year or two years in advance but from the way it looked last year when Pepe Mel came in, it didn't look like there was much planning going on.
"With any new manager coming in it is always great to have that clean slate. And if Albion only have 14 players then they need eight or nine and he can put his own stamp on things.
"It has to be the right person and he has to make the right decisions because he will have to win games."
